JUNGLE JUSTICE: DPO SENSITISES OKADA RIDERS IN AKURE, CAUTIONS AGAINST UNLAWFUL ACT

The Divisional Police Officer in Charge of Nigeria Police Force “B” Division Oke Aro Akure Superintendent Otaigbe has admonished Okada Commercial Riders to desist from taking laws into their hands anytime there was a road wreckage or accident.

He made the disclosure during an enlightenment and sensitation programme for the Commercial Motorcycle Riders popularly called Okada in the Sunshine State held at Police Officers Mess, Akure..

He averred that accident is a sudden occurrence that can happen at anytime as nobody can depart from his home to anywhere with the intention of causing accident.

His words: “So as soon as accident occured, first thing to do is to give first aid to the victims and thereafter evacuated to the nearest hospital for further treatment.While the driver or otherwise that caused the accident should not be beaten, killed or his or her vehicle set ablaze because it would amount to jungle justice.

“Instead of beating the driver,he or she should be apprehended and subsequently hands over to the Police”.

He stated that without any report, accident victims and those with cases of gun shot wounds can now be treated unhindered in the various hospitals across Nigeria according to a new gazette or amended law from the police authority. “During the treatment, the hospital will only contact or inform the police,” he explained.

He admonished the Okada Commercial Riders not to see themselves as dregs of the society and shun inferiority complex.”As Okada Commercial Riders, you can change your job at anytime as applicable to other professional or career jobs” he explained.

He stated that there is nothing like ignorance of the law pointing out that whoever committed any crime however lowly or highly placed will go to jail if find guilty by the Law Court. Apart from offenders going to Jail, he or she will still face God’s judgement.

He urged them to shun alcoholic and hard drugs consumption stating that it is not good for the bodies.

He cautioned them against doing thing that will make the society to revolt against them, adding that if the society revolt against them, the government will have no option than to proscribe Okada Commercial Riders in the state.

Also the SSA to the governor on Special Duties, Dr Doyin Odebowale admonished the Okada Commercial Riders not to take laws into their hands while appreciating the Divisional Police Officer for a job well done.
