Sir Titus Umewenke, the newly installed Asiwaju of Igbo in Akure Kingdom has promised to reunite every aggrieved Igbo residents living in the state capital, Akure saying his door is open to every willing Igbo who is ready to embrace peaceful coexistence.
He made this disclosure while on a thank you visit to the palace of Deji over his installation as the Asiwaju of Igbo in Akure Kingdom.
It could be recalled that five years after the paramount traditional ruler, the Deji of Akure land, Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi abolished the Eze Ndigbo title, a new Igbo leader for the Igbo community in the Akure Kingdom, Chief Umenweke Titus has been installed.
Oba Aladetoyinbo who had earlier approved the appointment of Chief Umenweke Titus about a year ago finally performed the traditional installation of the new Igbo leader at a ceremony held at the Ojukoto’s court of the Deji’s Palace.
The monarch charged him to ensure that there is a continue mutually beneficial relationship between the Igbo community and her host. ” The essence of waiting was to ensure that the Igbo community present a consensus candidate that will be acceptable to them”.
Oba Aladetoyinbo said the palace took time to do an adequate check on the background and antecedents of Sir Titus Umewenke before finally installing him to give direction to the Igbo community.
” It is pertinent to say without any iota of doubt that the Igbo have been very instrumental and contributed in no small measure to the success story of the economic viability of Akure land”.
Speaking with the PATH, Asiwaju of Igbo thanked the monarch for counting him worthy to be installed as the leader of the Igbo in Akure, promising to abide by the tenet guiding his office as Igbo leader.
” l am equally grateful to Oba Aladetoyinbo for the confidence he reposed in him and I promise to ensure that henceforth, there will be a great bond of unity between the Igbo and the Akure people. We are one, we have our houses, businesses and families here”.
He said further that, he received the chieftaincy title when he least expected, adding that God’s time is the best. ” Whatever is yours, nobody can take it. It could only be delayed but with patience, God’s Will shall be done. He has manifested Himself in making me the leader of the Igbo in Akure”.
In his words, ” I am assuring all the Igbo residents and Akure people of maximum cooperation with Deji and also live up to expectations in accordance with my position as Asiwaju of Igbo in Akure”.
Sir Umewenke noted that, he will ensures peace return among Ndigbo residing in Akure, promising to extend hands of love, peace and unity to the old and young, high and small, women and men provided they are ready to work with his leadership.
” I can only try to bring everybody on board, pacify them and solicit for their support but if they think otherwise, there is nothing I can do. You can only force a horse to the stream but you can’t force it to drink. In spite of this, I need the cooperation of everybody to move Igbo community forward”.
He promised to coordinate all the leaders of non-indigenes in Akure for a collaborative progress of the town.
