The Ondo State Chairman of Cattle Dealers Association who is equally the State Chairman of Hausa-Arewa Community APC in Ondo State, Alhaji Goniya Garuba has cautioned the Ondo State Amotekun against incessant attacks on herdsmen in Ondo State and other cattle dealers explaining that, the formation of Amotekun in Ondo seems to be targeting the Hausas and Fulanis who are living peacefully in the state without harbouring any criminal minded herdsmen in their midst.

He made the disclosure while fielding questions from journalists in Akure yesterday.

In his words “We are peace loving people who have been living in Ondo State for so many years without causing any problem. We have our businesses here, houses, wives and children are living in Ondo State,so we cannot cause any problem for the good people of Ondo State who has been very hospitable to us”, Alhaji Goniya Garuba declared.

He commended the Ondo State Governor His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa for his quick response and peaceful resolution of the problem between them and the Amotekun officials. The governor has ordered full investigation into the matter by the Nigeria Police Force.

He stated that during the fracas between Amotekun and his people, one of his members was killed by Amotekun adding that the quick intervention of the Ondo State Governor and other security outfits in the state actually saved the situation from snowballing into ethnic clash in the Sunshine State.

He denied the news that there was a violent clash between Amotekun and his people alleging that, when he led few of his people to Amotekun office in Akure to beg the state commander for amicable resolution with a view to settling the farmer whose crops were damaged by the cattle, they were unable to interface with the Amotekun boss.

However, at the Amotekun Headquarters,we heard that at Sango Ado-Ekiti road in Akure that our people are disturbing free flow of traffic as a result of seizure of their cattle which made us to rush down together with Amotekun operatives. We pleaded with Amotekun to release the cattle that we shall make arrangements to pay the farmer whose crops were damaged but Amotekun didn’t agree with us which made them to be shooting their guns and eventually killed one of us , Alhaji Goniya Garuba narrated.

He stated that alot of Hausas and Fulanis had been arrested while traveling across Ondo State to neighbouring states and sent to jail without committing any offence. He begged the state government to do something about it so their members who were sentenced to prison will regain their freedom.

He finally appealed to the Deji of Akure Kingdom His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi CFR, Odundun 11 to assist them by ensuring that Amotekun operations in Ondo are not injurious to his members.
