FUTA 32nd Convocation: Twin Sisters Bag First Class, as 3,205 Graduands Confer Degree Awards

The 32nd Convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) held on Friday, November 26th, 2021 at the school auditorium has not less than 3,205 graduands received awards of first degree certificates across nine schools of the institution.

The event which coincides with the 40th Anniversary of the institution prominently featured the conferment of the degree of Doctor of Letters to the Chancellor of the University, HRH Alhaji Umar Faruq II.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, while reeling out some of the achievements of staffs and students of the institution said a total of 3,205 graduands across nine schools,who have been found worthy in character and in learning will in the course of the event bag various degrees.

“Out of this number, 160 students graduated with first class honours, 1,334 students in Second Class Upper, 1,483 in Second Class lower division and 222 students are on Third class and six had a Pass degree”, he added just as he urged the graduands to open up their minds to positive fresh ideas and be wiling to learn, unlearn and relearn as the world out there is dynamic.

Prof. Fuwape while also thanking members of the academic and non academic community in the university for giving him an opportunity to serve said by the next convocation, he would have completed his tenure as Vice Chancellor and so, it behooves on him to thank God Almighty.

One other major highlight of the event was the official conferment of honorary degree – Doctor of Letter and presentation of the instrument of office to HRH, Alhaji Umar Faruk II, OON as the new Chancellor of FUTA.

In his remarks, the Chancellor, Dr. (Alhaji) Faruq II while also acknowledging that FUTA has earned a reputation for itself as the Best University of Technology in Nigeria said over the last 40 years, the university has continued to grow in leaps and bounds in all its areas of endeavor.

While also affirming his intention to monitor closely areas of research and innovation, Dr. Alhaji Faruq thanked President Muhammed Buhari for appointing him and the university community for their warm reception.

To the graduands, Dr. Alhaji Faruq congratulated them for attaining great academic heights while also wishing them success in their future endeavour.

The climax of the event however was the presentation of certificates to the graduands and gifts to 160 first-class graduates and other awardees.

Meanwhile, Taiwo Oluyale and Kehinde Oluyale both bagged First Class in Building Technology in FUTA and Taiwo Oluyale emerged as the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.89 and spoke on behalf of FUTA Graduating class of 2021.

Earlier in his address, the Pro Chancellor/Chairman of the council, Amb. ( Dr.) Godknows Bokadei Igali, OON while noting that it has been 40 years of making impact on the technological landscape of the nation, commended the academic community, staff and students for their sustained commitment not only to building the university but also to changing the fortunes of the country through their tireless labour.
