Women Arise Pays Courtesy Visit to Ondo Dep. Governor

A Non Governmental Organization, Women Arise has paid a courtesy calls to the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa as part of the organisation efforts in promoting women inclusiveness in politics, most especially in the forthcoming elections in the state.

While receiving the group at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s office Alagbaka Akure, the team led by Mrs Taiwo Olayiwola, Dr. Osadahun, Alhaja Sikirat, Queen Funmi Omole intimate the Deputy Governor of the importance of the group visit to his office.

The group demands for transparent, fair and inclusive selection process as the party pick its candidate in the forthcoming elections in the state, saying women should be given priority above other gender.

They commend Arakunrin Akeredolu for being a gender sensitive governor considering the number of women holding high profile positions in his government, noting that more women need to be included in government of Ondo State.

The group further said the importance of women in the development of any nation is very paramount, saying they play pivotal roles before, during and after elections, therefore should be allowed to occupy elective positions at various levels of government.

In their final submission, the group call the government of Ondo State and all major political leaders in the state to rally support for Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole to represent Akure North/ Akure South Federal Constituency in the forthcoming bye election in the state.

Speaking with newsmen, Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole said, the group is dissatisfied with low representation of women in government, mostly in elective positions in the State; noting that women have proven their mettle and execelled in every leadership positions they have occupied.

In her words, ” Notable women like Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, DG, WTO, Her Excellency, Wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabirin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who recently bagged The Sun Newspaper “Most Supportive First Lady” for her contribution on girls child development and Princess Oladunni Odu, the First female SSG in Ondo State have demonstrated that women are capable and result oriented “.

In his response, the Deputy Governor assured the Group that their welfare and voice will be well represented in the governance of the state

In the same vein, the group also moved to the Central Mosque Akure to visit Dr. Alh. Adbulhakeem Yayi Akorede, the Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom.

The Chief Imam described Princess Omowunmi as a woman with incredible virtues that stand her out among equals, explaining that she is an embodiment of everything good for proper human relations.

“I think that more than anything else, one has to understand her principles. She has a way of empowering people through her Foundation called MyChoice, essentially when you make a good motive that will add value to the service of humanity; you cannot feel cheated when it comes to Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole”
