The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Ondo State Council, Comrade Clement Fatuase has explained why he is pitching his tent with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the November 16 Governorship Election in Ondo State.
Comrade Fatuase while speaking with the PATH at the 2024 World Teachers’ Day held at the Multipurpose Hall of Aquinas College Akure said Governor Aiyedatiwa has done well in terms of workers’ welfare when compare to other governors of the neighboring states.
TUC Chairman further explained that aside Lagos State in the South West, Governor Aiyedatiwa paid N35,000 Wage Award to workers in Ondo State for six months to cushion the economic hardship in the country, and still paying N15,000 to the workers.
His words: ” If the government is not doing well, I won’t support them but in case of the current government in Ondo State, he is doing well. He has done very, very well when compare to other governors in the neighbouring states”.
” My Colleagues in other states name him as the best governor when it comes to the payment of Wage Award. Mr Governor paid N35,000 for the first six months and he’s still paying N15,000 to workers of Ondo State”.
Comrade Fatuase added that the governor prioritizes the welfare of Ondo Workers, ensure promotion of workers, regular payment of salary, believing that Governor Aiyedatiwa will as a matter of urgency touches other areas of worker’s needs.
While speaking on the implementation of the approved minimum wage for workers, Fatuase asked workers in the state to ignore the news of implementation by some states govenors saying no state has paid the minimum wage to workers.
” To the workers of Ondo State, don’t be deceived by the news item saying some states have start paying minimum wage. Even Adamawa state that is about to pay has penciled down names of about 7,000 workers to be retrenched and we don’t want such in Ondo State”.
He assured workers of Ondo State that the workers friendly governor of the state will implement and pay the minimum wage, noting that it is the policy of government approved by the National Assembly.
” To me, our governor is better and he’s a man of his words. What is the essence of minimum wage overburden with tax? The Committee set up by the government will definitely come out with a better minimum wage devoid of high tax.
Meanwhile, he congratulated teachers in the state asking them to be more diligent in their line of duty saying TUC will continue to represent their interest without compromising what its stand for.
