Walk-In: Don’t Leave Parenting Roles For Teachers, Fiwasaye’s Principal Tells Parents

Dr Omobola Ojoge, the Principal of the Fiwasaye Girl’s Grammar School Akure has implored parents not to transfer their responsibilities of monitoring their wards to the teachers saying good parenting would always produce good children.
The advise was given to the parents during the Walk-in ceremony for the new JSS 1 students of the school held on Wednesday 9th October, 2024.
The Principal, speaking with the PATH said Walk-in ceremony is a tradition of officially welcoming the new students into the school, saying the school has earlier conducted orientation programme where the students were tutored the rules and regulations guiding their conduct in the school.
While congratulating the 447 admitted students, Ojoge said the new students were given admission based on merit, adding that the school won’t compromise its standard.
She frowned at the attitude of some parents of the newly admitted students who were spreading fake news regarding the fees collected from the students, saying the school only collected collectibles approved by the Ministry of Education contrary to the news circulating on the social media.
The Principal warned against maligning the image of the school and reputation of its leadership, saying Fiwasaye Girl’s Grammar School won’t take any fees that is not approve by the government.
She added that to retain the studentship of the school, they must abide by the Code of Conduct of the school, saying promotion to the next class is strictly by credit in English and Maths and other core subjects.
” We don’t promote students with Pass unlike some schools. We are noted for standard and we don’t intend to compromise that aged long standard set up by the founding fathers. Credit in English and Maths and other core subjects is the only vehicle for promotion”.
She urged the parents to provide basic needs for the children, create time for them and monitor the type of peers and friends they keep to avoid bad company.
“The priority of any parent should be the welfare of their children. A lot of parents prefer to spent their times attending to businesses at the detriment of their wards, forgetting that, their future are these children”.
Ojoge advised the newly admitted students to prioritize their study above other things saying they can only make their parents proud with good grades and good conduct, adding that they are the future of Ondo State.
