The founder of YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese is one man in the Sunshine State with large heart whose passion for the vulnerable in the society has helped many families, giving hope to people without discriminating their ethnicity, religion or gender.
The Chief Medical Director of Sckye Hospitals Ltd, Akure revealed to the PATH that his decision in impacting lives of indigents has to do with his underprivileged background where he survived hardship through the help of God.
Speaking at the 9th Anniversary of the Chronicle Magazine in Akure, Ondo State Capital on Sunday, Dr Ikubese who chaired the occasion Congratulated the publisher and Management of the Media House for the successes and challenges in the last nine years of publishing.
He said, his background has helped him to show empathy to the downtrodden. ” I didn’t come from privileged background and God in His infinite mercy has helped me to where I am today. Why won’t I help the poor considering my past experiences while climbing the ladder of success”?
” Everyone in one way or another face challenges mostly the underprivileged; while growing up, I don’t have the opportunity of luxury because of my background but God has elevated me to the position where I must reciprocate God’s favour in my life by helping others”.
He noted that, as a medical practitioner, he has used his facility to rendered free medical services to the underprivileged and attended to people suffering from different ailments, aside others humanitarian services to the needy.
He charged the privileged people in the society to always remember their needy neighbors and people around them, saying doing so, the poverty level in the country will reduce.” I believe if everyone of us are giving back to the society, the system will be a better place”.
While congratulating the awardees for the honour bestowed on them by Chronicle Magazine, he charged them to be humane and give back to the society, no matter how small. ” You don’t do good because you are rich but you do good because you have good heart. With little at your disposal, do try to cultivate the habit of touching a soul, it will help our society to develop”.
Meanwhile, Dr Ikubese commended the pivotal roles of community newspaper in crime reporting, adding that the National daily ordinarily should depends on them for information because of their closeness to the grassroots.
He encouraged Publishers of Community tabloid in the state to continue to provide accurate information and never be deterred by the state of the country’s economy that has affected every business.
