The Agbaka of Alagbaka, Prince Afolabi Obasuyi has faulted the workability of the N50,000 bounty placed on kidnappers and criminals by the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, saying it can’t work and will be eventually abused by the people.
It could be recalled that the governor announced through the Commissioner of Information, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju that, the government of Ondo State has placed N50,000 reward for volunteers of information that could lead security agencies to the arrest of Kidnappers and other criminals in the state.
The Governor N50,000 reward was to encourage and inspire members of the public to provide accurate information that will help expose the nefarious activities of criminal elements residing in the state.
Chatting with the PATH at the 9th Anniversary of the Chronicle Magazine on Sunday, the Senatorial Hopeful said despite the fact that security issues are global challenges, he condemned the total collapse of Nigeria Security Network, saying it is a shame on the leadership of the country.
” 20 to 30 years ago, nobody could believe Nigeria will be facing security challenges that has collapsed every sector of our existence; it is unfortunate that our leaders are yet to find solution to insecurity that has bedeviled the country”.
Prince Obasuyi commended Governor Akeredolu for taken bold steps among the governors in the country in fighting insecurity, but bemoaned the recent tactics of giving N50,000 to information Volunteers, saying it can’t work in a country where majority of the population are poor.
” Kudos to the governor on the fight against insecurity but on the N50,000 reward for volunteers of information, that is the governor own understanding on how to bring the criminals to book but in the real sense, it can’t work”.
He said Nigerians have been impoverished to the level of providing inaccurate information and implicating others just to be a beneficiary of the N50,000 bounty.
” It is easy to provide information; scam is everywhere, anybody can pretend to report or give security information to get N50,000. Hunger is in the land, people are not happy, civil servants are not happy; let our government solve hunger and do the needful rather than chasing shadow”.
The SDP Senatorial Candidate further stated that the N50,000 reward mechanism of Akeredolu’s Government won’t achieve anything. ” I am saying this because I want our Governor to know that it can’t work: if I am invited, I will tell him why it can’t work and I am ready to proffers solution to him”.
Meanwhile, Prince Obasuyi said the greatest problem in solving insecurity is visionless leaders who have governed the country since 1999 where elite left the politics of the country in the hands of challantants who lack the basic knowledge of governance.
” We got it wrong in 1999 when the elite that ought to take the Centre Stage of governance failed to join politics, believing the Fourth Republic won’t work; today challantants are in power and the people are at the receiving end of insecurity”.
He noted that the people have no confidence in the leadership of the country, let alone providing information to the security agencies because of the corruption and monetization of the system.
