Facts have emerged as the reason behind the resignation of some core loyalists of Late Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN.

Following the demise of the governor, Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties, Mr Dare Aragbaiye, Engr Raimi Aminu, Commissioner for Works & Infrastructure, Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde and SSA on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale all tendered their resignation letters to the Secretary of the State Government.

PATH learnt that some of the Late Governor aides that have tendered their letter did so out of fear considering the roles they allegedly played during the impeachment saga of Aiyedatiwa as the Deputy Governor.

Speaking with the PATH, Otunba Benji Oloye, a Community Leader said two things are likely responsible for the immediate resignation of the Akeredolu’s men saying their close and personal relationship with the governor who brought them to government could be responsible for the resignation in less than 24 hours to the official announcement of the governor’s demise.

“Two things might have played out with the resignation. The pain of loosing a boss, benefactor and confidant might warrant the immediate resignation”.

He added that fear of sacking and shameful disgrace from office could led to submission of their resignation letters.

” Also the tendering of resignation letter to the Secretary of State Government might be another way of saving their face from shame peradventure Governor Aiyedatiwa decided to sack them from Office.

Otunba Benji said further that Governor Aiyedatiwa should be expecting more resignation letters from core loyalists of the late Governor who will voluntarily resign base on principle and solidarity with the memory of Akeredolu.

“The possibility of core loyalists of Late Akeredolu resigning from Aiyedatiwa government is very high. These loyalists came to government based on personal and close relationship with Akeredolu and if the person that brought them to power is no more, what are they waiting for?

Otunba stated further that there’s nothing like cabals in Late Akeredolu’s government but loyalists who are ready to defend their benefactor with everything at their disposal.

“When Akeredolu was on the sick bed, he hardly know what was happening in the state or among his immediate family. People take decisions on behalf of Aketi under the pretence that it was authorized by him”.

“These people many refer to as cabals, to me are not cabals but Akeredolu’s loyalists that are ready to do everything humanly possible to protect and defend the interest of their ailing benefactor. The crack in government at that particular time gave room for much talk about certain cabals taking charge of the state”.

Meanwhile, speaking on Aiyedatiwa picking deputy from Owo, the Bashorun of Owo Kingdom said there’s nothing wrong if the governor pick his Deputy from Owo as a form of reciprocating the kind gesture Late Akeredolu extended to him by picking him as deputy, saying morally, it is good for the memory of his Late Boss.

“There’s no where in our constitution that spell out where a deputy should come from but for those agitating, Aiyedatiwa can only do so on moral ground. Akeredolu has the choice of picking his deputy from somewhere else before settling for Aiyedatiwa and the governor can now reciprocate same gesture by picking Owo person as deputy if he so wishes. To me, there’s nothing wrong if Governor Aiyedatiwa considers Owo indigene as deputy”.
