A former Presidential Aspirant, Dr Thomas Wilson-Ikubese has cautioned politicians against accumulation of wealth at the expense of the masses, saying politics should be for service.
He stated this during the 7th Anniversary and Award Ceremony of the PATH NEWS MAGAZINE held in Akure, capital city of Ondo State where he was the Chairman of the event.
Reacting to the lecture delivered by the guest speaker, Pastor Ola Olalere JP on the theme,” Godfatherism in Nigeria Politics: Is it a Blessing or Curse to the growing democracy of Nigeria?, Dr Ikubese applauded the Guest Speaker for the thought provoking lecture.
Ikubese who also doubles as the Convener of Yeswefit Revolutionary Movement said Nigerian are venturing into politics as a mean of survival, seeing it as an avenue to make cool money and have their own share of the National Cake.
He frowned at this barbaric and uncultured attitudes of joining politics in the name of amassing wealth at the expense of the teeming population.
His words: Politics should be about service and not accumulation of wealth. A lot of people are joining politics today, not for any other reasons but to grab their so call share of the “National Cake”.
He added that Nigerian Politicians have seen politics as a profitable business worth investing in, waiting to cash out once they get to the positions of authority.
“Politics should not be an exclusive profession as people engaged in it should do so to serve their country and not a means to amass wealth”
He demanded for genuine complain from people criticizing the government saying most people complaining are those not “Eating” from the system, adding that once the table turns or switches, they stop complaining.
” Those by the sidelines, waiting to steal are more than those currently stealing our collective resources. When you put them in the position of authority, they probably do the worse”.
Ikubese challenged every Nigerian to endeavors to correct friends, families, associates in power whenever they are doing the wrong things, saying that is the only way Nigeria can be great again.
