ODHA Deputy Minority Leader, R.O.D Condemns Gruesome Murder of Sunday Ayeni, Seeks For Justice

GRUESOME MURDER OF ONE OF MY CONSTITUENTS, MR. SUNDAY AYENI, STANDS CONDEMNED AND JUSTICE IS ALL I ASK FOR.

Today, I am depressed. I thought I was strong but the news of the gruesome murder of a member of my Constituency proved me wrong. That one man would be killed while working hard to keep himself and family alive is what I cannot comprehend.

I received the news of the gruesome murder of Mr. Ayeni with huge shock. He was said to have been butchered by men of the underworld while working on his farm. His innocent dog was not spared either. I condemn this dastard act in the strongest of terms. How can we not be able to sleep with our eyes closed in our house?

I call on security agencies in Ondo State, especially the Police and Amotekun Corps, to swing into action immediately and bring the perpetrators to book. One of your key responsibilities is to ensure security of lives and property. Although the system has failed Mr. Sunday Ayeni, but arresting his killers and ensuring that they face the full wrath of the law will console his people.

I want to sincerely condole with members of his immediate family, Uba community, Ikanmu and Oka in general over this unfortunate incident. I am grieving because Ikanmu is my home. May God grant all of us the fortitude to bear this huge loss. It is an attack on the entire people of Oka and we will continue to cry until justice is served.

Let me also appeal to my brothers and sisters, especially the youth, to avoid considering reprisal. The truth is that the story of compensation to late Mr. Sunday Ayeni by some herdsmen over the destruction of his farm is confirmed and this might help the preliminary investigation of the security agencies but we must explore all possible angles to ensure that we get to the root of this matter. Let us trust our security operatives to do the right job. Let us collaborate with them through information sharing.

We are tired of blood shedding in Oka and so I am sending strong warning, on behalf of my people, to anyone out there planning evil against the people of my Constituency. Be informed that Oka is not a safe place for you and your entire generation will not know peace forever. My people are loving, peaceful and tolerant and nobody should think we are cowards.

May the gentle soul of Mr. Sunday Ayeni find peaceful rest in the bosom of our Maker.

Signed:

Hon. Raymond O. Daodu (R.O.D),
Deputy Minority Leader,
Ondo State House of Assembly, Akure
