The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, Dr Hammed Abodunrin has tasked the media practitioners in the state to do more of investigative journalism while discharging their duties as the mirror of the society.

The Commandant made this disclosure while chatting with Newsmen at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executives of the Freelance Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) in Akure, Ondo State.

Dr Abodunrin said the role of the media in security matters cannot be underestimated, saying journalists are partner in progress as far as security issues are concern.

He urged the media to continue to sensitise the public on the need to be security conscious and giving timely intelligence report to security agencies.

The NCSDC Commandant further enjoined the media to be professional while reporting crisis and disaster, saying their usefulness in disaster management has helped security agencies to record great achievements.

He advised media practitioners to do more of peace journalism that tend to bring everybody together, reporting achievements of security agencies in maintaining peace and order rather than concentrating their news reportage of negative news stories alone.

Dr Abodunrin commended FIBAN for counting him worthy for the prestigious award, promising a robust relationship with the organization.

Some of the awardees include Commissioner of Police, CP Oyediran Oyeyemi, Dr Jibayo Adeyeye, Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Political Matters, Samonda, Perfect Motors, SP Sani Lasisi among others.
