OKA DAY 2021: AKOKO SOUTH WEST NCWS GIVES CASH TO OLD WIDOWS, AWARDS TO OUTSTANDING MEMBERS
The Akoko South West Chapter of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) has given cash empowerment to old widows in the council area and also bestowed leadership awards on some outstanding leaders of the organization in recognition of their contributions to the society.
The programme was put together by Jacob Korede Empowerment Foundation in collaboration with the Akoko South West Chapter of NCWS in remembrance of Late Pastor Jacob Dele Aborode, the husband of the State President of NCWS, Pastor Jumoke Aborode.
The empowerment and award presentation was done at the Olubaka Pavilion in Ibaka Oka where women from the Northern Senetorial District were all in attendance.
Speaking with Newsmen, the State President of NCWS, Pastor Jumoke Aborode said 2021 Oka Day celebrations was chosen for the programme to honour His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adebori Adeleye, the Olubaka of Oka Kingdom.
The President said cash empowerment was given to old widows in the 15 quarters of Oka Kingdom to ameliorate their living condition and well-being.
Pastor Aborode said the award presentation to outstanding members have no monetary commitment on the part of the awardees but in recognition of their services to the body and to further encourage them.
While commending the leadership of the organization, Olori Jumoke Adeleye, the Mother of the day said she was happy with the kind gesture of the State President of NCWS saying she has made the town proud, promising to support the organization in all their future engagement.
One of the awardees, the Iyaloja of Oka Mama Emidun who was presented with Award of Great Leader of NCWS in Akoko South West commended the administration of the Pastor Jumoke Aborode, saying her leadership has brought tremendous changes to women in the state.
The Akoko South West Local Government President Comrade Yemi Akeju in her keynote address urged every member and women in the council area to always give their best, saying they have what it takes to excel in their chosen career.
She said her local government is showing leadership by example considering the fact that the State President of NCWS comes from the council areas. ” I am extremely happy that the State President’s Local Government is showing leadership by example with this life touching program for the old widows and recognition award for outstanding members”.
She charged women in politics to be committed and support the present govement in the state, adding that NCWS is not partisan but ready at all times to support any government that is gender sensitive.
While praying for women in the state against insecurity, she asked them to continue to adhere to Covid-19 protocols, saying the third waves of the pandemic is imminent across the country.
“We must be security conscious and also endeavors to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 protocol as the third waves of the pandemic is claiming lives across the country. Let every mother take good care of their girl’s child and protect them against life threatening social vices in the society”.
Award of Excellence was given to the State President by NCWS Akoko South West Chapter as His Imperial Majesty, Olubaka of oka land commends the president for her good work.
Other Local Government members were decorated with different degree of awards.
