CORRUPTION: I Sacked A Governor Who Embezzled N313,000- IBB

says it is silly to clampdown on press

The Former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) has described his government as a saint in terms of fight against corruption when compared to the current government under President Muhammad Buhari.

He made this disclosure in an exclusive interview on the Arise TV monitored by the PATH News Magazine where he talked on the Buhari administration fight against insecurity, economy and corruption, June 12, SAP, restructuring, gagging of the press and 2023 General Election.

While speaking on the 2023 General Election, IBB said who to be the president of the country must be in their 60’s, meaning the likes of Atiku and Tinubu are off the radar of the president Nigerians must vote for in the coming presidential election.

Babangida, who himself will be 80 on August 17 this year, was confident that the nation is endowed with both human and natural resources, hinted at a few individuals, whom he said were in their 60s, had the capacity to become president and could effectively run the country.

On the fight against corruption, IBB as fondly called said his government sacked a governor for misappropriating N313, 000, saying under today’s democratic setting, politicians who stole billions of Naira are walking freely in the country.

IBB frowned at the clampdown on press by the Buhari Administration, noting that it is silly to gag the media. ” I don’t fear press, I even liberalised the media”.

The former leader, who accused the Nigerian people of creating and at the same time, destroying their own country, identified bad leadership as yet a major reason for the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria.

Speaking on SAP, he said his government didn’t do badly but many people misunderstood his government and the policy. ” I made contributions to the development of the Nigeria with many policies and programmes of my government”.

IBB noted that had it been he never annulled June 12 Presidential election believed to be widely won by MKO Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), there would be coup de’tat by the military.

Reacting on the performance of the President Buhari APC led administration on Security, economy and corruption, he said Nigerians are in better position to either score the President high or low
