President of the KAFTAN TV, Dr Adewole Adebayo has advocated for better welfare package for journalists like other professionals that are working for the progress of the nation.

He stated this while chatting with the PATH at the Dinner and Awards marking the 2021 Press Week of the Ondo State Wing of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.

The President of KAFTAN conglomerate said government and media owners should as matter of urgency approve salary structures for media practitioners in the country.

According to him, ” Newsmen should have a good salary welfare package that will enable and encourage them to discharge their duties effectively. If journalists are not well paid, it may expose them to all form of corruption and unethical conduct”.

He berated media owners who are owing journalists salaries and providing poor welfare package for them.

“Every media house that can’t do for journalists what KAFTAN TV and KAFTAN Boss are doing for their journalists should think twice about being in business because it is not a job for enslavery of people; it is not a job to make people think twice about going out to do work for the public”.

Dr Adewole said journalists deserve to be treated better considering the risk attached to the nature of their jobs. ” If everybody is being paid, journalists should be paid; if others are receiving pension, journalists too should receive pension; if everyone has insurance, journalists deserve that too”.

He said any society that fails to take care of its press does not want to hear the truth.

Meanwhile, he commended the leadership of NUJ in Ondo State for honoring him with the prestigious Media award, noting that the society ought to been rewarding journalists because of the roles they play in the society.
