One-way-traffic is a common trend in Black Africa Race, mostly in our dear country, Nigeria. Guinness World Record has over 40,000 records for anyone to break but why is every Chef in Nigeria after the exact record broken by Chef Hilda Baci, a record confirmation that is not up to a month.
It’s either Chef Dammy or Chef Deo trying to break her record.Even when Hilda Baci was still waiting for her record breaking feat to be certified by Guinness World Record, from nowhere, Chef Dammy attempted to set another record for longest cooking marathon.
Guinness World Records is a British reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. The brainchild of Sir Hugh Beaver, the book was co-founded by twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter in Fleet Street, London, in August 1955.
Some few months ago, Hilda Baci a Chef made attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest time spent cooking. A record held by Lata Tandon, an Indian chef based in London and the first woman to achieve this feat after cooking consecutively for 87 hours and 45 minutes.
Hilda’s feat caught world attention on her set 100 hours cooking marathon. Baci’s record-breaking attempt took place from Thursday, May 11 to Monday, May 15, during which she cooked over 100 pots of food over four days.
After waiting for weeks for confirmation of the record broken, the Guinness World Records finally confirmed Hilda Effiong Bassey, as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with an impressive time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.
If another Nigerian wanted to be in the Book of Records, why not look for other record to break other than Hilda’s Record. Why must every Chef target the feat achieved by this Lady? This one way traffic behavior of Nigerian doesn’t limited to cooking alone, once you are doing good in your line of business, before you say Jack Robinson, the business is infiltrated and bastardised by every Tom, Dick and Harry.
Even before Hilda’s Certification, another Nigerian Chef, Adeparusi Damilola, popularly known as Chef Dammy, undertook a 120-hour cook-a-thon in Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State. However, Dammy reportedly failed to notify GWR before embarking on the cooking marathon, all her effort to break Hilda’s Record became futile exercise.
Again, our own Adeyeye Adeola, a talented Nigerian chef, has embarked on a remarkable culinary journey to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon (individual).Adeola’s cook-a-thon began on Friday, June 30, 2023, in the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State and is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
However, Adeola’s 150-hour cook-a-thon if achieved will break Hilda Baci’s record and also set a new world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Though, Nigerians eagerly await the outcome, hoping to witness Adeola’s extraordinary achievement in setting a new Guinness World Record.
It’s high time other Chefs look for something else to break in the Guinness World Record rather than Cook-A-Thon. Hilda Baci has represented the East, Dammy and Deo have represented South, we are waiting for either Amina or Aisha from North to balance the Federal Character of resource distribution.
