The true mark of a leader is the willingness to stick with a bold course of action. Comrade Adeleye Sunday Oluwole is a visionary young vibrant leader that knows his onion as a unionist. His foray into unionism was borne out of his determination to bring desire transformation into union and change the narrative of compromise by some union leaders.
Called him fearless leader, you are right. He is not stare to talk true to power on matters affecting the welfare of workers in Ondo State. Comrade Adeleye is not the kind of union leader you can buy over or lure with monetary gratification. No wonder, he was unanimously elected as the youngest NLC chairman in the history of Ondo State union.
Comrade Sunday Adeleye Oluwole was born on the 22nd of August I974 to the Late Pa Joshua Oluwole of Akure Kingdom and Mrs. Esther Oluwole of lkere Ekiti descent.
He began his elementary education at Army Children’s Day School, Obaize, Owerri in lmo State but completed his primary education at St. Michael RCM, Akure, Ondo State.
He thereafter proceeded to St. Aquinas College, Akure where he obtained Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) and later proceeded to the best University of Technology in the country, the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) where he studied Agricultural Economics and Extension. He bagged degree in Agric Economics with option in Crops Production.
He joined the Ondo State Civil Service in 1994 and by providence has risen to the rank of an Assistant Chief Agricultural Officer on Grade Level-13 in the state Ministry of Agriculture.
He got enlisted into the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) as his primary union upon his joining the Civil Service and by divine arrangement he was elected officer at Ministry of Health Unit; Assistant State Secretary of NCSU in 2004. As a result of his outstanding performance, he ran for the office of the Ondo State Chairman of NCSU in 2009 and won with landslide.
This Chairmanship position he held in NCSU gave him an opportunity to demonstrate his doggedness and indefatigable characteristics in fighting for Nigerian workers in the state and beyond. In 2010, Sunday Adeleye became the Assistant Secretary of NLC in Ondo State and in 2011, to further showcase his competence in unionism, he was elected Vice Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) and later became Ondo State JNC Chairman in 2013. This office he held until 2018 and recorded unprecedented achievements as he is today a very popular, fearless and uncompromising labour leader.
For his commitment and doggcdness in the labour movement, Sunday Adeleye was pushed forward for the National Leadership of his Primary Union (NCSU) by the Southwest Caucus of the union and was elected the Deputy National President of NCSU in January, 2018.
For the first time in the history of organized labour in Ondo State, Oluwole was unanimously elected unopposed as the youngest NLC Chairman in Ondo State on the 25th April, 2019; with these unprecedented accomplishments in Unionism, Comrade Sunday Adeleye Oluwole has added another feather to his cap as the National President of NCSU after he was elected unopposed.
His uncommon achievements in labour struggles attracted members of the Ondo state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to unanimously approved his nomination for the Prestigious Award of Distinguished Labour Leader and Unionist of the Year (2019), while he had bagged many Awards for his services to humanity.
The highly experienced, Vibrant and Young Comrade Oluwole Adeleye Sunday has no doubt carved a niche for himself as a unionist of high repute and national figure in the history of unionism in Nigeria.
