A Splinter Group from the Carpenter and Furniture Union in Ondo State has allegedly dissolved the State Executives of the union and immediately appointed Four Man Committee that will pilot the affairs of the union for the next three months.
Speaking at the State Secretariat of the Union in Akure, the group who stopped the monthly meeting of the union half way, accused the current State Chairman of the union, Comrade Adekunle Obolo of high handedness, embezzlement and corruptly enriching himself with the union fund without proper accountability.
The Chairman Board of Trustee, Comrade Oladapo Rufus said the tenure of Comrade Obolo has expired since last year August, instead of stepping down and constitute Electoral body for transparent election, the chairman was returned unopposed in a kangaroo election supervised by his cronies.
The BOT Chairman said the need to restore sanctity back to the union and do the needful led to the bold steps taken by Concerned Elders of not only dissolving the Obolo led administration but also constituing Caretaker Committee that will lead the union to a democratically elected State Excos.
He lamented the manner the chairman runs the union as a private property without recourse to the elders in the union many of who supported his aspiration in the first term.
His words: ” The autocratic leadership style of Obolo administration has reduced the number of members attending monthly meeting. A union with members across the Council Area of Ondo State can’t boast of 20 members attending meeting again unlike before where everywhere will be filled up. We must return to the old days and this can’t happen under this present arrangement of high power embezzlement”.
The newly constituted Caretaker Committee under the Chairmanship of Comrade Gbenga Aladesanmi promised to restore the lost glory of the union saying the era of “Baboon dey work, Monkey dey shop is over” as every member will be carried along.
” Under the outgone tenure of Obolo, he finds it difficult to give account of the union, we are all ignorant of the financial running of the union. When palliative was approved to us, what members should benefit from were given to family members, girl friends at the expense of our members. All these have stopped”.
He assured members of providing purposeful and visionary leadership that will priotize the welfare of members across the state.
He asked all the Zonal and Local Government Executives to carry on with their statutory duties as the shake up in the State didn’t affect them.
Comrade Aladesanmi thanked the think- Tank and Concerned Elders of the union for their love and zeal for the development of the union that is gradually becoming ghost of itself due to bad leader.
Members of the four man Committee includes Comrade Gbenga Aladesanmi (Chairman), Joseph Kolawole (Secretary), Alabi Olaniyi (Treasurer) and Ade Omoyajowo (PRO) who are to be in charge of the union affairs pending the election of new State Executives.
Meanwhile, the State Secretariat has been sealed till further notice.
Reacting to his sacking by the group, Comrade Adekunle Obolo said inspite of the self style coup attempt on his leadership, he still remain the duely elected chairman of Carpenters and Furniture Union in Ondo State while appealing to members across the state to continue to maintain peace as everything is under control.
