In recognition of their laudable contributions to the Catholic Church and humanity, the Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria on Saturday bestowed Ambassador of Christ awards on 13 members of the church across the parishioners in Ondo Dioceses.

The award ceremony was held at the Catholic Church Cathedral in Akure, with families, friends and church members were all in attendance to celebrate with the awardees.

In his sermon, the Bishop of Ondo Dioceses, Revd Jude Arogundade admonished the need for Christian faithful to serve the Lord diligently and always have the heart of giving, saying the hardship facing the county will soon become things of the past.

He congratulated the recipient of the awards, saying they must live up to the name of the award, ” Ambassador for Christ”.

” it was indeed a great joy to be in the midst of the awardees who have selflessly contributed to the development of God’s work in the Diocese, you must all be good ambassadors of Christ wherever you find yourselves”.

The President of Catholic Laity Council Of Nigeria, Ondo Diocese, Prof. Helen Ogunsuyi said those who were honoured were carefully nominated across the Diocese and that it was in recognition of the services they had rendered selflessly to the church.

While also charging other faithfuls to be passionate about God’s work, Prof. Ogunsuyi said the award is the reward for the good work done in service to the church.

While speaking with the PATH, Sir Ezeorji Umewenke, one of the recipient of the award said, the award is unique because it was given to him by the Catholic Church in recognition of his little contributions to the body of Christ.

” This is the highest honour from the non clergy arm of the Catholic Church; I feel elated that Catholic Laity recognized me, I will continue to contribute my best quota to the development of the church”

Sir Ezeorji while appreciating the Catholic Laity Council Of Nigeria for deeming it fit to honour parishioners across the Diocese, said an award in service to God is the highest any man can desire.

Sir Ezeorji Umewenke is a parishioner at the Mary Queen of Angel Catholic Church, Akure.
