Akeredolu’s Chief of Staff, PS Ministry of Health, Others Bag Awards As PSN Celebrates World Pharmacists Day

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Ondo State Chapter has joined its counterparts across the globe to celebrate the 2021 edition of the World Pharmacists Day.

The theme for the year is tagged, ” Pharmacists; Always Trusted for Health: The evolving roles of Pharmacists in Health Management”. The programme was held at the Pharmacy House, Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State Capital.

In his welcome address, the State Chairman of PSN, Pharm Robinson Akindeko congratulated pharmacists in the state for another edition of World Pharmacists Day, adding that the impact of Pharmacists in combating the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be overemphasized.

Akindeko pleaded with other health workers in the health care system to allow Nigeria to have access to improve healthcare with the collaboration of pharmacist, saying unhealthy rivalry will only jeopardize the life of the ailing patients.

While reeling out his achievements in the last six months in office, Pharm Akindeko said the Drug Management Agency (DMA) bill has been passed and signed into law, appointment of first Pharmacist as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, as well as the Consultant cadre for pharmacists, workshop among others were some of the breakthrough recorded under his leadership.

In his goodwill message, the governor of Ondo State ably represented by Mr Dare Aragbaiye, the Special Adviser on Union Matters and Special Duties congratulated pharmacists in Ondo State, saying their roles in the society is very sensitive and need to be encouraged at all levels.

Aragbaiye commended Akeredolu led administration for improved health sector since assumption of office.

” Mr Governor is passionate about the health of his people; our health facilities are well equipped, Health Insurance Scheme, first of its kind in Ondo State; several containers of vaccine imported into the state, recruitment of health workers, setting up of Teaching Hospitals among others to boost the health of the people of the state”.

Pharm Bamiduro Dada, the chairman of the occasion tasked all pharmacists in the state to be up and doing while discharging their duties and also be cautious while attending to people most especially at this period of Covid-19.

Speaking with PATH, the immediate State Chairman, Dr Abiodun Aiyeku advised the public on drug abuse and misuse of prescribed drugs, saying patronizing unapproved drug shops could be unhealthy as intake of fake drugs are injurious to health.

The climax of the program was the award presentation to some outstanding leaders within and outside the professions. The awardees includes the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Ondo State, Chief Olugbenga Ale, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Pharmacy Mrs Foluke Aladenola, Dr Samuel Adekola, the immediate past National Chairman of ACPN and Pharm Olakunle Ekundayo, the founder of Drugfield Pharmaceutical Limited.
