OGSA HOLDS VALEDICTORY FOR 2025/2026 GRADUANDS AS PRINCIPAL, AKONI OLUYIDE ADENIYI DELIVERS FAREWELL ADDRESS

Dupson Collins, 29th October, 2026

Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure on Thursday, 29th October, 2026 held its Valedictory Service for the graduating students of the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

The ceremony, held within the school premises, was presided over by the Principal, Mr. Oluyide Adeniyi, also known as Akoni Oodua, who is set to bow out of service in the coming months.

In his farewell address titled “My Last Valedictory, My Gratitude, My Joy, My Admonition,” Mr. Adeniyi expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve his alma mater.

He noted that upon assumption of office in 2024, he met a school that needed improvement, but was leaving behind a more disciplined and celebrated institution.

He thanked his Vice Principals, teaching and non-teaching staff, the PTA Executive led by its Chairman, the Global and Local chapters of the Oyemekun Grammar School Old Students Association (OGSA), parents and students for their cooperation throughout his tenure.

Mr. Adeniyi described the outgoing session as a Year of Harvest. According to him, the school improved academically and won trophies in debates, quiz, sports and science competitions at local, state and national levels.

He said discipline was enforced with zero tolerance for truancy, while the dignity of the school uniform and learning environment was restored.

He disclosed that through the intervention of old students, the school secured free NECO registration for 45 students and free JAMB registration for 40 students, making a total of 85 beneficiaries.

He also acknowledged the 1983 set of the alumni for organizing free extra moral classes for SS3 students and the Babs Foundation for organizing yearly Saturday lessons for brilliant students in Akure South Local Government.

The Principal also addressed the recent sign-out saga involving graduating students, which he said trended for the wrong reasons and almost tarnished the image of the school.

He stated that dancing on tables, tearing of uniforms, assaulting juniors, insulting teachers on social media and writing with white markers on uniforms were unbecoming of Oyemekun students.

“Oyemekun is not a motor park. White marker on uniform is not achievement. You are not graduating to become touts; you are graduating to become doctors, lawyers, engineers and leaders. The world outside will assess you by your character and competence,” he said.

Mr. Adeniyi said he had forgiven the students as a father and urged them to represent the school with pride.

He charged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the school and to stay away from cultism, drugs, Yahoo-Yahoo and immorality, while urging them to respect their parents and fear God.

He advised those proceeding to higher institutions to make judicious use of the free JAMB opportunity given to them.

“This may be my last valedictory as Principal, but Oyemekun will forever remain my home. I love you all. God bless Oyemekun Grammar School.”
