2023 Workers’ Day: NLC, TUC, ASUSS, NULGE Leaders Hail Akeredolu Over Workers’ Welfare, List Challenges

The Labour Unions under the umbrella of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ondo State Councils have acknowledged the giant strides of the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu led government for prioritizing the welfare of workers in the state since assumption as the governor of Ondo State.
In his May Day address, the state Chairman of NLC, Comrade Victor Amoko said the Governor has done well with the payment of all workers entitlements, particularly the backlog of salaries of workers.
According to him, the two Congresses of NLC and TUC resolved to honour Mr Governor with an award as the Best Governor of the Year in appreciation for the love he has demonstrated towards workers in the state.
The Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who was ably represented at the event by the Special Adviser on Union Mattes, Hon. Dare Aragbaiye said his government understands the place of workers and their contributions to the socio-economic and political development of the state.
Gov. Akeredolu who said he will continue to invest in human capital development also restated that his administration will develop and build infrastructure to make life more meaningful and better for the people as the state is working to surmount the challenges imposed by dwindling resources which resulted in the inability to pay full salaries as at when due early last year.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the annual march-pass to salute Mr. Governor, Comrade Bola Taiwo, Ondo State NULGE president commended Mr. Governor for paying workers salaries promptly just as he charged Ondo State workers to be diligent in the discharge of their duties in order to encourage the government.
In his charge to the government, he restated the need to do more in terms of training and retraining of workers and to look into the possibility of a 13th month allowance for workers in state.
In separate remarks, the chairman of ASUSS, Comrade Balogun Tajudeen, NANNM, Comrade Kehinde Olomiye, PASAN, Comrade Oluwafemi Helen, SSASS GOC, Comrade Ayodele Julius and the Chairman of National Union of Electricity Board, Comrade Filua Kayode respectively applauded Governor Akeredolu for doing a great job most especially in respect of workers welfare in the state.
Comrade Filua however noted the need for government to review the privatization of the power sector just as the State Chairman of Health Workers Union, Comrade Segun Ajibulu and the chairman of NANNM spoke on payment of hazard allowance for health workers.
Meanwhile, the Labour Leaders like Oliver Twist charged the governor to look at other areas where workers are facing challenges believing that the Talk and Do Governor will act fast on them.
