2022 Engineering Week: Akure NSE Chairman Reel Out Achievements
.. Commences a week long programme with Media Parley

The Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE) Akure Branch has begun a week long activities marking an annual event that end NSE Year.
Speaking at the Media Parley at the NSE Secretariat in Alagbaka Akure, the Branch Chairman, Engr Oloruntola Ezekiel highlighted activities line up for a week long programme to include lectures, visitations, awards presentation, Annual General Meeting,election of new executives among others.
The chairman noted that, the 2022 Annual lecture focus is on Oil and Oil Alternative mix for Energy Sustainability in a developing nation, saying the theme was carefully chosen because of the Society concern for the present power crisis in developing nations and Nigeria in particular.
His words: ” The current pattern of Energy from fossil fuel is environmentally unsustainable; the over reliance on fossil fuel in particular threatens to alter Earth’s Climate. We are advocating for clean energy, an alternative to fossil fuel as source of energy”.
He stressed that, there is need for a legal framework on renewable energy and encouragement of strict implementation of energy regulatory strategies and policies with incentives for the application of renewable energy sources in Nigeria.
Engr Oloruntola said the lecture will be delivered by the Honourable Commissioner for Energy, Mines and Mineral Resources, Engr Razaq Obe at the Dinner and Award Night slated for Saturday 27th of August.
The programmes line up are Health Walk, Games (Ayo, Chess, Ludo and Table Tennis), lecture on Wednesday 24th August where Engr Professor (Oba) Adebisi Akinola of Federal University of Technology, Akure will speaks on ” Employing Engineering Approach to Improving Existing Systems for Local Production”.
Asides, the Branch Annual General Meeting will come up on Thursday, 25th August where the outgoing executives will give account of stewardship and general election of new executive will take place.
On Friday, 26th is the JUMAT service at the Akure Central Mosque and programme for the young Engineers at the Secretariat. The grand finale is the Dinner and Award Night on the 27th August where individual and corporate bodies will be honored.
The Thanksgiving Service will hold on Sunday 28th August at the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries, South West 4 Region Headquarters, Akure.
Meanwhile, the Chairman reel out some major breakthrough recorded by the branch executives in the last two years of piloting the affairs of the Society.
Engr Oloruntola said the executives swung into action after their inauguration in August 2020 with visitation to stakeholders and Commissioner in the Ministry of Works among others.
He also noted that, the Society organized Memorial lecture in honour of Late Engr Raymond Olusoga, visitation to Orphanage Home and Public lecture during the World Engineering Day, Asun Night for Engineers to unwind, birthday for the past chairman of the Society, donations to State Government over bomb explosion at Eleyewo, Catholic attack at Owo and palliative during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chairman stated further that it was during his tenure that the Commissioner of Land and Works, Engr Raimi Aminu donated land to the Society, Ondo State produced the Deputy President of Nigeria Society of Engineers, Engr Margret Oguntala FNSE, Ondo State Power Law was appended by the governor which gave room for the establishment of Ministry of Energy, Mines and Power.
He added that his tenure encouraged membership drive as young Engineers were inducted into the Society, scholarship for female students studying engineering courses, assistance to widows, position papers on Fire Service and Infrastructure, no history of building collapse due to proper monitoring of building sites among other achievements.
