12th Biennial Congress: Ondo COBUSS Re-Elects Comrade Fisayo Fapohunda For Second Term, Promises Better Welfare For Members

Comrade Fisayo Fapohunda has been re-elected for second term in office as the State President of the Conference of Bursars of Secondary Schools (COBUSS), Ondo State Chapter at the 12th Biennial State Congress of Union held in Akure, Ondo State.
The State congress was held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Event Hall of C.A.C. Grammar School, where stakeholders in education sector in the state attended the Congress.
Comrade Fapohunda along other State Executives of the union were overwhelmingly re-elected and subsequently sworn in to continue steering the affairs of the conference.
The gathering attracted prominent dignitaries from the education sector and labour unions who delivered goodwill messages, commending the vital role bursars play in maintaining financial accountability and administrative stability in public secondary schools.
In her goodwill message, Mrs. Olakanye Olubunmi, Director of Schools Account, Central Zone, urged members to uphold honesty and trust, describing them as the lifeline of the school financial system. She encouraged bursars across the state to remain transparent and committed in the discharge of their duties for the growth of the education sector.
Also speaking, the National President of COBUSS, Comrade Oreoluwa Olukayode, applauded the cordial working relationship between school principals and bursars, describing it as a positive development for the progress of schools. He advised members to sustain the harmonious collaboration for the overall advancement of secondary education.
Delivering his goodwill remarks, Chairman of NASU, Mr. Anthony Onojeta, charged the bursars to continually maintain high professional standards while contributing meaningfully to the development of schools across Ondo State.
In the same vein, Elder Smart Akanki, former NASU Chairman in Ondo State and founder of COBUSS, encouraged members to remain committed to professional growth and continuous learning. He recalled his contributions to securing the Accountant Cadre for bursary staff, expressing delight at the steady progress of the conference. He also emphasized the importance of working in harmony with school principals to sustain stability within the school system.
The Permanent Secretary of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Morayo Bayo-Philips, congratulated the newly elected executives and urged members to embrace new knowledge and innovations that would strengthen school administration.
The host principal, Dr. Theophilus Toyin Olobayo, Principal of C.A.C. Grammar School, advised bursars to strictly adhere to the rules guiding their profession, stressing that accountability and a strong working relationship with school principals are essential to maintaining order within schools.
According to him, failure in financial management responsibilities could lead to administrative chaos and hinder the development of schools and students alike.
Also speaking at the congress, the Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs. Oluwadaisi Olusola-Oke, highlighted the strategic role bursars play in procurement and supply management within schools. She urged them to work in synergy with principals and other stakeholders to ensure the success and progress of the state’s education system.
Responding to questions on her motivation to strengthen the education sector, she noted that the progress being recorded is a product of strong collaboration among stakeholders within the commission, aimed at advancing education development in Ondo State.
Earlier in his address at the congress, Comrade Fisayo Samuel Faphounda, while welcoming members and guests, expressed gratitude to God for the success of the event and appreciated members across the state for their unwavering support.
He revealed that the executive council had embarked on extensive familiarization tours across the 12 zones of the state, sensitizing members on professional standards, career development opportunities, and the importance of strong interpersonal relationships within school communities.
Faphounda emphasized that bursars must always be guided by the conference’s three core principles—Honesty, Integrity, and Commitment—which he described as the foundation for professional conduct and effective financial administration in schools.
He also acknowledged the Ondo State Government for creating the Accountant (School Account) Cadre, describing it as a landmark development that has opened new career advancement opportunities for bursary staff across the state.
The congress also celebrated retired members of the conference for their dedication and contributions to the growth of COBUSS, while discussions were held on strengthening the organization, improving training opportunities, and addressing workforce shortages among non-teaching staff in schools.
