A former presidential aspirant, Dr Thomas Wilson-Ikubese JP has applauded the return of the former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola SAN to bar, saying political office is transient and a call to service of which no one should make a career.
Following an images that emerged online, of Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, former Governor of Lagos state and former Minister of Works/Housing, in his wig, appearing as a counsel for a client, it has generated a lot of reactions online.
A commentator online wrote that the former governor and Federal Minister descended so low by returning to the court having served the country in high power positions, Ikubese said there’s nothing bad for Fashola returning to his previous enterprise after leaving office.
In the words of a commentator, “how can a former Governor and Federal Minister descend so low”?
He added that, a lot of people share the same thoughts with the commentator who raised the question of Fashola return to the court as demeaning his status as former governor and minister.
“That commentator is not alone in his line of thought. For many of us, when one occupies a political office, he assumes a “mega” status and is not expected to return to his previous enterprise after leaving office”.
Ikubese further described the step taken by Fashola as anomaly, noting that political office is transient and a call to service of which no one should make a career.
” Once you finish serving, it is expected that you drop the toga of that office and return to your regular day to day activities, just like the rest of us”.
He encouraged other professionals who have served the nation to toe the line of Fashola saying the country need more of Fashola’s scenario to reset the psyche of the country’s past and serving leaders.
” We need to see more of this scenario, to reset the psyche of our people!”
