Ondo NULGE Commissioned Bakery Project: “A Quest To Improve Members Welfare”-Bola Taiwo

…… Says Project cost N25m

The President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ondo State Chapter, Comrade Bola Taiwo has said the quest to further improve the welfare of the union members led to the establishment of modern bakery in Ondo state.

The multi-million naira digital bakery which is situated at the union Headquarter in Akure was commissioned by the governor of Ondo State.

In his address, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Bola Taiwo said during his electioneering campaign, he promised to place the welfare of its members above personal interest, adding that the digital bakery was part of his fulfilment to improve the welfare of NULGE members.

Comrade Bola Taiwo who promised to spend single term in office reiterated the need to leave behind a legacy that will stand the test of time.

He said the need to divert from check up dues to more profit oriented business also contributed to the bakery initiative. ” The bakery will serve dual purpose, selling of the bread at a reduce price to our staff and at the same time making profit into the union purse”.

The President noted that he anchored his programmes for the union on four points agenda with determination to bring revolutionary development to trade unionism in Ondo State, all these he has fulfilled.

” In our manifesto, we promised to provide free health scheme for all NULGE members, provide supports towards career advancement and development, give attention to staff welfare and establish a retirement scheme”.

He thanked Governor Akeredolu for regular payment of salaries of local government workers within the available resources, promotion and conversion of eligible workers and not tampering with funds accruable to JAAC of local government.

Comrade Taiwo charged the state governor to implement grade level 17 as contained in the Local Government Scheme of the service, adding that Ondo State is the only state in the South West that is yet to implement it.

” There is different between the state and local government workers; the scheme of service of the state stop at GL 16 while local government stop at GL17. Implementation of the scheme of service is the icing on the cake which will no doubt promote career fulfilment in the service”.

Comrade Taiwo said he is optimistic that within the shortest period, the listening governor will act on the request and agitation of local government workers and approve implementation of the scheme.

On his remarks, the representative of the governor, Alaba Isijola commended the giant strides of Comrade Bola Taiwo led state executive, saying the establishment of the bakery has shown him as a focus and visionary leader that means well for its members.

He assured the workers that their quest for implementation of the grade level 17 scheme of service will be acted upon by the governor, adding that Governor Akeredolu is a workers’ friendly governor.

On her part, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi saluted the courage of the president for his innovative projects since he assumed office.

She tasked all the local government workers to always cooperate with his leadership, saying Comrade Bola Taiwo major concern is giving attention to staff welfare.
