Ondo Engineers Inspect Manuex- Owena & Convention Resort Project Site

To prevent building collapses in Ondo State, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Akure Branch has visited the project site of Manuex- Owena & Resort Centre along Igbatoro Road, Akure.

The Resort Centre being constructed by an Abuja based Building firm will house five star hotel of nine floors, Entertainment Center, Amusement Park among other facilities.

Addressing the team of Engineers, the Managing Director of Urban World Development Limited, Arch Olutunbo Niyi said all necessary safety precaution and Engineering regulation were adhered to in the building projects.

He explained in details the building framework from foundation level to the last floor, adding that, there is no cause for alarm as all necessary precautions and materials used for the foundation is of high standard.

Arch Olutunbo commended the body for the visit with a promised to work on their observation and suggestions.

Speaking with The PATH, the Chairman of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Akure Branch, Engr Ezekiel Oloruntola stated that it falls within the responsibility of the professional body to inspect and oversee the activities of any ongoing projects in Ondo State.

He said: “Due to incessant collapse of buildings, we are saddle with the responsibility of inspecting projects site to ascertain if the contractor comply with Engineering regulations and other structural procedures”.

Engr Oloruntola said the body inspection goes beyond structures but ensuring the materials used are of high standard and professionals engaged are qualified personnel.

While inspecting the site, Engr Oloruntola said attention of the contractor was drawn to some inadequacies discovered which include not earthing of the foundation, no safety officer on site among other shortcomings that may affect the structure.

The chairman said the tripatite arrangement among the contractor, consultant and client must be cordial, noting that the building of such magnitude need harmonious team work for efficient and effective construction.

According to him,” The professional body will not relent in its efforts in making sure every building construction in the state comply with Engineering Regulations. It is our responsibility to ensure safety of lives and prevent casualty that may occur as a result of poor building constructions.

He further said, the association will continue to monitor the project as it progresses and ensure they comply with their initial observations.
