The Women Wing of the Trade Union Congress, Ondo State Chapter has called for justice for the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Development, Dr Mrs Bunmi Osadahun who was physically assaulted by the APC Ward Chairman in Arigidi Akoko.
In a press statement signed by the Chairperson, Barr Mrs Happiness Demehin said the dastardly act further shown men’s violence against women which the Commission would continue to kick against.
The Press Statement Read:
TRADE UNION CONGRESS WOMEN COMMISSION CALLS FOR DISCREET INVESTIGATION/JUSTICE ON THE ASSAULT AGAINST THE HON. COMMISSIONER FOR WOMEN’S AFFAIRS OF ONDO STATE.
This is a call for Justice on the alleged assault on the person of Commissioner for Women’s Affairs of Ondo State Hon. Mrs Osadahun
Social media was awash recently over a video clip of which we watched with utmost chargrin and dismay of how the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs in Ondo state was assaulted with a chair by the ward Chairman in Arigidi Akoko, in the Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State.
This act further corroborates the cry for a society free of violence against Women and Children. On our part as a Commission,TUC women Commission of Nigeria , Ondo state Branch is saddled with the responsibility to channel the course of women in the service and women and Children in the society at large. These we have been doing through advocacy campaigns , sensitization, collaboration and organization of seminars to enlighten women and children on their rights and what to do if their rights are being trampled upon by any organization, Institution, body or persons.
To this end, TUC women Commission Ondo State Branch call on the Commissioner of Police Ondo State Command to carry out a discreet investigation and bring the alleged perpetrator to justice in order to forstall future occurrences of a brutality of this nature . As a matter of fact, if a Commissioner could be assaulted, humiliated and exasperated in this manner ,then, where lies the faith of an ordinary woman on the street?. This act is dastardly and unacceptable .It is on this note ,Trade Union Congress (TUC) Women Commission call on the Government of Ondo State and all other relevant Government Agencies to step up the tide against gender based violence and other social menace.
It is very fundamental and germane that this act of indignation on women at whatever level shouldn’t be handled with kid gloves as it could exert negative influence on the core values of our society.
