By Our Correspondent, 12th August, 2024
The Deputy Minority Leader in Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Raymond O. Daodu (ROD) representing Akoko south west constituency 1 has condemned the gruesome murder of a farmer in Oka Akoko.
Mr Sunday Ayeni 36 year old in Uba Ikanmu Oka area of Akoko South West Constituency 1 of Ondo State was murdered in cold blood few days after some herders that destroyed his farm paid compensation to him.
The killing of Mr Ayeni was alleged by the community that the herder were responsible for the killing. He was found dead in his farm with his intestines exposed.
It was gathered that his dog which had accompanied him to the farm, was also killed and found lying beside him.
He suggested the attack occurred because of the herders we’re dissatisfied with the amount of compensation they had paid.
The compensation was reportedly negotiated by security agents and community elders.
According to the source, Mr Ayeni went to his farm with his dog as usual, but he didn’t come back on time and this led to the search party going to the bush.
They discovered his lifeless body in pool of his blood with his dog and cutlass beside him.
The community leader Mr Pius imoru, said the entire community was in mourning mood.
He also said they were now scared of going to their farm because of herdsman attacks.
Am urging the combined State government security team of the police and Amotekun corps to please deployed and swing into action and make sure they brought the evil perpetrators to book, and continue to protect his community constituency going forward.
Hon Raymond Daodu described the dastardly act as one crime too many and calls for a swift investigation to bring all who are involved in the crime to justice.
The Minority Leader says there can be no justification for the brutal murder of a human being and fellow citizen.
ROD, however, appeals for restraint on the part of those callling for revenge, saying they should allow the relevant authorities to serve justice on the matter as the injury of the crime was inflicted on Ondo State as a whole.
The Minority Leader condoled with the community ,family and friends of the departed as well as the people of Uba Ikanmu Community on the incident.
ROD is urging the State security team of the State Government, the Police and Amotekun to swing into action and make sure they brought the perpetrators to book.
Signed.
