IPU Rolls Out Activities Celebrating Ikun- Akoko Day 2025, Launching of ₦32 Million Development Fund

The annual Ikun Akoko Day is scheduled to hold on Saturday August 16th, 2025 at the Ajagbokun High School Grounds, Ikun-Akoko.
Addressing journalists at the Association of Independent Publishers of Nigeria (AINPN) Secretariat in Akure, the National President of Ikun Progressive Union (IPU), Elder Orimijua Titus, FCA, expressed his delight at the progress made in planning the upcoming celebration, describing it as a momentous occasion for the people of Ikun-Akoko.
“I am honoured to announce the commencement of Ikun-Akoko Day 2025. This year’s event promises to be unforgettable, showcasing our rich cultural heritage, community spirit, and the enduring resilience of our people,” he stated.
The themed for the celebration is “Working Together for Unity, Peace and Development of Our Community,” the event has been carefully designed to reflect the values and aspirations of the community, while also creating an opportunity to launch major initiatives for its growth.
The programme will feature a series of cultural and social activities including the Miss Ikun Day Beauty Pageant, the final of the annual Inter-Quarters Football Tournament on Friday, August 15th, and the traditional “Ayo Olopon” game. There will also be vibrant cultural parades and performances by clubs and age-grade groups, alongside the highly anticipated yam-eating fiesta.
A key highlight of the day will be the official launching of a ₦32 million development fund, aimed at improving critical infrastructure and services in the town. Part of this year’s achievements also includes the commissioning of the newly constructed Ajagbokun High School main gate, a project undertaken by the Lead Way Club of Ikun-Akoko.
The Governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa is the Special Guest of Honour while Mr Ayo Owoeye is the Chairman, Oba Olugbenga Ajimokunola, Iralepo of Isinkan Land is the Royal Father and Dr Olumuyiwa Adu is the Chief Launcher.
In keeping with the community’s spiritual heritage, inter-denominational prayers will be held at the market arena, while a thanksgiving service is planned at the Holy Trinity Church in Ikun-Akoko. A special Jumat prayer will also take place at the Central Mosque in Ikana, Ikun-Akoko. As part of efforts to encourage good conduct and social responsibility, various merit awards will be presented to selected youths, the elderly, and the three best-behaved young people in the community.
Elder Orimijua emphasized that Ikun-Akoko Day is more than a celebration—it is a symbol of unity, identity, and shared purpose. “This day is about promoting unity, celebrating our heritage, and igniting development across our land. It’s also a platform to recognize those who embody the values and aspirations of Ikun-Akoko,” he said.
He extended heartfelt appreciation to the sponsors, partners, and volunteers who have played vital roles in making the 2025 celebration a reality. He also called on the media to help publicize the event and share its importance with the broader public.
As preparations gather momentum, the IPU invites all sons and daughters of Ikun-Akoko, including residents, associations, and friends of the town, to join hands in making this year’s celebration not only a success but a stepping stone toward greater development and lasting unity.
