Investiture: Engr. Adedokun Adeyonu Takes Over As NIEEE 5th Chairman, As Prominent Nigerians Bag Awards

Engr Adedokun Adeyemi Adeyonu has been sworn-in as the 5th Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE), Akure Chapter, Ondo State..
In a well attended Inauguration on Thursday 4th July, 2025, the Winners Guest Hall was filled to capacity as the Executive Governor Ondo State, Engineers, National Officers of NIEEE, traditional ruler, chiefs, politicians, families and friends came in their numbers to witness the history making investiture.
Speaking, the Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, ably represented by the Special Adviser on Energy, a commissioner designate, Engr (Dr) Johnson Alabi who doubles as the Guest Speaker commended the effort of Engineers in nation’s building.
He congratulated the new leadership of the association while urging them to continue to collaborate with the state government in the provision of sustainable power supply to the citizens and residents of the state.
The Governor further said, the days of estimated billings are over in Ondo State, describing it as illegal, saying O’DATIWA METER was introduced to put a stop to the manner consumers of electricity in the state are being shortchanged with high billing system.
In his lecture with the theme: “Policy and Regulatory Framework for Efficient Energy (Electricity) Management” Engr Alabi said with the electricity market reforms in the country, the topic of discussion is apt and timely.
“We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s power sector where we must balance increasing demands, limited generation, weak infrastructure, and financial sustainability while ensuring access, reliability, and affordability for our people; The key to achieving this lies not only in infrastructure development but also in robust policy and regulatory frameworks that provide clarity, direction, and confidence for both public and private actors”.
He added that, one of the major steps taken by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration in the electricity sector was to grant the approval of the first ever Electricity License in the state.
His words: The government of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is at the advanced stage of concluding the franchising framework for the distribution of electricity within the state that would allow for better accountability and a commercial environment that rewards efficiency”.
The outgone chairman, Engr. Samuel Folurunso while chatting with PATH thanked members of the institute for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure while charging the new executive to be up and doing with intent of making a remarkable impact during their time.
In his goodwill message, the National President of NIEEE who doubles as the Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Felix Olu, represented by the deputy President, Engr. Dr Felix Adegboye lauded the immediate past Chairman for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the institute.
The President charged the new executive members to put in their best under the leadership of the Chairman and work together as a team, saying unity of purpose and collaboration is the only driving force to a successful administration.
He enjoined them to liase with the State Government and other relevant stakeholders and agencies while ensuring that citizens enjoy better electricity supply.
In his inaugural speech, Engr. Adedokun Adeyonu, thanked the leadership and members of the institute for their support, cooperation, with a promise of serving them diligently with compromising his integrity.
He assured the institute of bringing on board young engineers and mentorship to the young ones who are looking forward to become a professional in Engineering.
The Chairman also promised to embrace all inclusive open administration while giving rooms for partnership with the government, private and corporate organizations for the growth of the institute.
The highlights of the event was the Investiture of Engr Adedokun Adeyemi Adeyonu as the 5th Chapter Chairman and subsequent inauguration of the chapter Executives by the Chairman.
In recognition of the outstanding contributions of some eminent Nigerians to the power sector, the institute conferred degrees of award on them. Leading is the governor of Ondo State, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Jegun of Ile-Oluji Oba Dr Oluwole Olufaderin Adetimehi, Engr Johnson Alabi Special Adviser on Energy, Dr Bayo Ilawole, Permanent Secretary LGSC.
Also presented were the DG of OSRC Media Group, Mr Kenneth Odusola-Steveson, Commander of Amotekun Security Network, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, Engr Ibrahim Sunday Abudawaris Chairman Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission among others.
