Insecurity: Ojoge Allays Fear Of Bandit In Schools, Says Parents Should Verify Before Reacting To Rumour

The Principal of Fiwasaye Girl’s Grammar School, Akure, Dr Omobola Ojoge has allayed the fear of bandit rumour in Akure schools by some unknown people saying Parents and residents of Ondo State should verify such news before reacting.
It could be recalled that, apprehensive parents rush to their children schools in Akure yesterday to pick them as a result of news that bandits want to attack some designated schools in the state capital.
Speaking with the PATH, Ojoge said reports alleging kidnappings in schools and the presence of bandits within Akure metropolis were false, noting that, security agencies have debunked such news.
She noted with concern that, the growing trend of misinformation and fake news pose significant threats to public safety.
Narrating her experience in the hands of parents who were adamant in collecting their wards, Ojoge added that the deliberate dissemination of false information did not only cause unnecessary anxiety among residents but the entire academic environment.
She told parents to only rely on news items from verified social media platforms, accredited media, saying some social media handlers are causing more havoc to the society than good.
While advising parents to be calm, she assured them of safety of their wards in the school saying no kidnappers or bandits will touch any student.
“As if we know this event is about to happen, we prayed against insecurity on Monday and I know God answered our prayers. For as long as God liveth on the throne, no evil will befall any of our student”.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Government has urged residents to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing fear and panic, saying the state remains peaceful and secure despite recent false reports circulating on social media.
