Ondo Governorship Poll: Asiwaju Ndigbo Of Akure Asks Igbos To Shun Violence, Vote Peacefully

Ahead of the Governorship Election in Ondo State, the Asiwaju of Ndigbo in Akure, Sir Titus Ezeorji Umenweke has warned Igbos residing in Akure and environs against violence, asking them to approach the election with caution by voting and not engaging in electoral malpractice.
In a Press Statement released through his Special Adviser on Media, Umenweke implores the Igbos to freely exercise their franchise by voting for the candidate of their choices, noting that it is their civic responsibility to do so.
He described Igbos in the state as peace loving people that prioritize their businessess above other things, urging them not to traucate the peaceful coexistence among the Akure people and Igbos.
His words: I call on Ndigbo in Akure and other part of the state that, we are here in Ondo State because of our businesses and means of livelihood and other things are secondary. To those that want to vote, civility and peaceful conduct is very key to us as the leader of Igbos community and I trust my people that they won’t do otherwise”.
Asiwaju added that, Governor Aiyedatiwa had worked hard to entrench peace in Ondo State and nobody should hide under the guise of election to create crisis in the state.
” This appeal becomes necessary because we don’t want a repeat of 1983 where the state was thrown into crisis. We all bear the pains because business can only thrive where there’s peace and harmony”.
He enjoined all to shun violence, unlawful conduct before, during and after the election saying whoever runs contrary to the rules of the election will have themselves to blame saying no leader will be held responsible for any criminal action of an individual.
He thanked the Governor and Deji of Akure for maintaining peace among the indigenes and non-indigenes residing in Ondo State, promising to collaborate and partner with relevant security agencies for security of lives and property.
