Emergency Rule: Give Account Of Your Six Months Tenure, Former Presidential Aspirant, Ikubese Tells Ibas

In the spirit of transparency and accountability, a former presidential aspirant, Dr Thomas Wilson-Ikubese has charged the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd), to give proper account of his six months tenure in the state.
It could be recalled that, Ibas took over the leadership of the Oil Rich Niger-Delta State following the declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers State on the 18th March where Governor Siminalayi Fubara and House of Assembly activities were suspended for six months by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a Press Released made available to the PATH, Ikubese asked the sole administrator who failed to properly handover to the duly elected governor of the state to publish his activities during his six months in the saddle.
His words: ” I find it also curious that the sole administrator left, after six months of sitting on the resources of Rivers state without properly handing over to Governor Siminalayi Fubara”.
“It is expedient that Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd) publish his activities while in office during the emergency period of six months, in the spirit of transparency and accountability”.
He also called on the judiciary to promptly make pronouncements on the different lawsuits filed by various interests on the declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers State including that of the seven PDP state Governors, in the interest of our democracy.
“While section 305 of the 1999 constitution as amended provides for the declaration of a state of emergency, it does not explicitly grant the president the power to suspend the democratic structures of the state”.
” I herein call on the judiciary to promptly make pronouncements on the different lawsuits filed by various interests on the subject matter, including that of the seven PDP state Governors, in the interest of our democracy”.
Ikubese further urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to avoid political detractors and praise singers and focus on governance in the interest of the people of Rivers state.
He appealed to Mr Nyesom Wike, the Minster of FCT and former Governor of Rivers state to avoid unnecessary interference in the affairs of the state and let peace reign in the interest of all.
