The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ondo State Council, Comrade Victor Oladele Amoko had faulted the proposed N8,000 Federal Government palliatives to 12 million Nigerians saying it was a decision taken in error.

Speaking with the PATH during the 4th Anniversary of the Topshot News Magazine in Akure, Amoko said failure of the federal government to consult organized Labour before coming up with N8,000 palliative was an error on the part of the Tinubu led administration.

The Senate had approved the request of President Bola Tinubu to borrow $800m loan from the World Bank. It also amended the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act to accommodate the provision for N500bn for palliatives to mitigate the effect of petrol subsidy removal on poor Nigerians.

His words: ” The N8,000 palliative of the Federal Government for Nigerians was a huge mistake without proper consultation with the Organized Labour. How did the government arrived at N8000? When did they carried the market survey? Let’s agree they have made a mistake, they can still amend and do the needful”.

The Chairman further said the leadership of NLC at various levels will ensure all Nigerians benefit from whatever palliatives the Federal and State Governments are giving to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy.

He said though NLC is representing the workforce but failure of the elected ruling class to fight for the right of the citizens at this critical time necessitated the activeness of the organized Labour to stand for all Nigerians.

Meanwhile, Comrade Amoko congratulated the Publishers of Topshot News on her 4th Anniversary, commending the fairness and balance news reportage of the media outfit.

He also congratulated the State President of NULGE, Comrade Bola Taiwo who he described as a reliable and dependable Comrade, saying his encouragement, support and word of advise over the years has helped him at various unions’ leadership he has occupied.

Amoko charged him to continue to provide purposeful leadership to the Local Government workers in Ondo State, saying with resilient efforts, Local Government autonomy would be achieved.
