A leading aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu has assured the people of Akure South and North Federal Constituency of providing sustainable empowerment if elected into the House of Representatives.
Adu made this disclosure while speaking with the PATH during the inauguration of the Akure South executives of the Tailors Association of Nigeria (TAN) where he was a special guest of honour.
In his goodwill message, Barr. Adu said the greatness of tailors in Ondo State would be determined by their zeal, creativity and ability to compete with colleagues outside the state.
” What can actually determine their greatness is rooted in their outfits, the percentage of those that can really compete with their fellow colleagues outside the shore of Akure is very low and I am not impressed”.
He charged the tailors to brand and repackage their products like their counterparts in big cities, saying they need exposure and improvement on how they package their products to excel in tailoring business.
Adu noted that, lack of synergy among tailors has adverse effects on their business, asking them to collaborate with each other for better outfits.
The House of Representatives hopeful bemoaned the empowerment programmes of politicians who gave what is not sustainable as empowerment to their constituents.
” I can’t give sewing machine to anybody but I can do what will make them get more sewing machines; giving sewing machine to individual is not sustainable. Many politicians even gave sewing machines to Bricklayers that are very close to them”.
According to him, the best way to empower tailors for instance is picking 10-20 tailors, pump money into their business, monitor them and let them grow. Having done with them, you pick another set of people, doing this, they will grow in business and sizes”.
“Somebody that you invested close to N5m on and monitor will definitely grow better but when you give somebody N10,000 and N35,000 worth of machine and you said you are empowering the people, you are just deceiving yourself, it is not sustainable.
He promised to give sustainable empowerment that will remove the beneficiaries of his programmes out of poverty to opulence.
