The leadership of the All Nigeria Confederation Of Principals of Secondary schools (ANCOPSS) in Ondo State has gifted 192 retired principals in recognition of the contributions to teaching profession and management of their schools while in active service.

The presentation was done at the 42nd Annual State Congress of the union held at ANCOPSS House, Akure.

In his welcome address, the State President of the union, Mr Johnbull Mebawondu congratulated all the principals across the 18 Local Government for being alive to witness the 42nd State Congress, saying Covid-19 prevented the 2020 edition from taking place.

He commended the governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN for repositioning education in the state, noting that his administration activities in education sector has clearly shown that he is great achiever who has restored values for educational practices.

Mebawondu stated further that Akeredolu government giant strides in the last four years has led to prompt payment of salaries and arrears owed by his predecessor, renovation of primary schools, regular promotion of workers, appointment of Tutoring General, recruitment of 1200 teachers, payment of students 2021 WASSCE registration fees among others stands him out.

He pleaded with the governor to focus his attention to the payment of grants-in-aid to school, payment of 2017 WAEC subvention, approval, enforcement and gazzetting of Grade Level 17 for Ondo State, capacity building for teachers, enhanced welfare for Ondo ANCOPSS, recruitment of more teachers, renovation of more schools, supply of stationery/science equipment.

Others demand includes composition of Governing Board for TESCOM, rehabilitation and construction of fences in the schoool, provision of computers to boost ICT, approval for the increment of retirement age to 65 years, approval of conditions of service for teachers and provision of eighteen seater bus for ANCOPSS.

Speaking with PATH, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Mr Olarewaju Akinola commended the turn out of principals that graced the state congress.

He said the retired principals who were presented with gift deserves the honour, saying it a good thing to recognise their noble contributions to secondary education in the state.

” Principals gifted were those who retired between January 2019 and 2021;192 principals received gift, some in capacity of standing committee of ANCOPSS, some as former executives of the union and others as principals”.

Akinola charged principals to be security conscious and endeavors to teach their students security tips considering the precarious security challenges facing the country.

One of the retired principals and former Tutor General, Alhaji Rabiu Olasoji disclosed that dedication to duty and hardworking earned him promotion to the position of Tutor General before his retirement, urging principals in active service to be dedicated and wake up to their responsibilities as head of school.

Comrade Dayo Adebiyi thanked the leadership of ANCOPSS for counting the retired principals worthy for the honour.

PTA Chairman, Alhaji Omoloja, ASUSS Chairman, Comrade Tajudeen Balogun, Representative of Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education among others gave their goodwill messages at the event.
