Ahead of the November 16 Governorship Election in Ondo State, Engr Ayotunde Bally has said visionary leadership is the key quality needed in who becomes the next governor of Ondo State.

Engr Bally is the Guest Speaker at the 6th Anniversary of the Sunshine Truth News held at the NUJ Press Center, Akure on Thursday 18th April, 2024. He speaks on the theme “2024 Governorship Election – Interrogating Qualities Of The Next Ondo State Governor Amidst Economic Hardship”.

He said there is a need to thoroughly interrogate the personal qualities of aspirants who have put themselves up across the political parties to be the next occupant of the Alagbaka Government House in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

His words: “In light of the economic hardship currently facing the State and its people, the qualities of the next Ondo State Governor must be adequately interrogated by the electorate. The traditional method of electing a Governor must be scrutinized, and competency should be prioritized in the electioneering process”.

He added that ahead of the party primaries, party members and delegates must ask pertinent questions from those jostling for the ticket of their respective parties saying voting wrong individuals as party’s flag bearer is the beginning of failure in any democratic process.

” In the build-up to the gubernatorial election, particularly the party primaries that will produce candidates across the political parties, there are pertinent questions we must ask those who are jostling for the ticket in their political parties and we demand answers in a convincing manner that make us entrust them with our votes”.

Bally stressed that, voters should cast their votes for candidate with people oriented blueprint that focus on economy, capital and human development.

” The Visionary Blueprint should include respect for the rule of law, financial autonomy for Local Government, State Assembly and Judiciary, experience management of men and material, Reduction in unemployment, economic development of Ondo Deep Sea Port”.

” Economic development to include businesses development, bring economic growth, increase IGR, attract both Local and Foreign Investors, promotion of entrepreneur skills, Infrastructural development, Agricultural Revolution, Accessible Primary Health Care, Education Development, Reduction in debt profile, Development of Tourism, Public Private Partnership, Accountability and Transparency among others “.

He frowned at money politics among Nigerians , appealing to electorates to shun the habit of selling their conscience for peanut while asking the youth to stop selling their future in the name of votes buying and selling.

He promised to continue to do more of political advocacy and sensitization among the youths, telling them the danger of trading their future for self centered and overambitious politicians.

” We are doing a lot of awareness among our youths on the danger of vote buying and selling. I hope with our advocacy, this election in Ondo State will be devoid of votes trading. Our people are more conscious politically and know the adverse effects of selling the future of their children for peanut”.

Meanwhile, Engr Bally described SunshineTruth online news has objectively upheld journalism through its unbiased and unfavorite dissemination of news, holding the government to responsibility and accountability to the people.

While commending the publisher of the Sunshine Truth News on his initiative of Launching a foundation for the social development of Ondo State, he thanked him for counting him worthy for the prestigious award.

” I thank the Management of the Sunshine Truth News for the honour and recognition. We are not going to relent on our good work to the society and less privileged among us. Government alone can’t do it; the kind-hearted and well to do citizens of the state both home and abroad should not hesitate to contribute their quota to the development of our dear state”.
