2023 Children’s Day: Ondo TUC Congratulates Children Urges Parents to Monitor Wards Social Media Usage

The Secretary of the Women Wing of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ondo State Council,Comrade Oyinola Margaret Oluwatoyin has called on parents to monitor their children’s usage of the social media, saying social media is distorting the value system of children.

She stated this while chatting with the PATH at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade Akure during the 2023 Children’s Day celebration held on the 27th of May.

The Theme for this year celebration was tagged “The State of the Nigerian Children Today; Proper parenting for Value Reorientation and National Consciousness”.

While congratulating the children, Comrade Oyinola noted that Social media is throwing lots of unconventional ideas into the children, and their perspective of life and orientation are being negatively influenced by these ideas.

According to her, ” Parents should begin to monitor the manner their children are using social media; the children must be educated on the implications of using certain social media application because if you don’t control their social habit with love, who knows what they will be doing at our back”.

She pleaded with parents not to shy away from sex education for their wards and ensure they make their children friends, develop a good relationship with them saying it will help the children to make them close confidant.

While commending the colourful performances of the children from various primary and secondary schools, she asked the children to be obidient and shun social vices.

The Secretary further charged the parents most especially mother to inculcate moral into the lives of their wards at every stage of the children’s lives starting from the womb, saying proper upbringing of children will birth a better society.

Her words: ” It is your primary responsibility as a parent to monitor your children, help them to maximize their God’s given potentials, develop their skills, show loves and provided necessary support to help them in their career path”.

Meanwhile, the State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC) Comrade Clement Fatuase felicitates the children as they celebrate the 2023 Children’s Day, calling on the children not to despair but be resilient and face the challenges of the future.

He charged the Akeredolu’s led government to continue to invest in the education of the children while also providing the right platforms for them to exhibit their God- given talents.

In his goodwill message to the children, the Governor of Ondo State ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Otunba Dele Ologun congratulated the children and those who have made the state proud.

The Governor enjoined parents to support and compliment children live-saving initiatives of the government, adding that the children have the obligation to be responsible for their future achievements.

In the same vein, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Mrs Adebunmi Osadahun thanked the governor for providing necessary logistics to celebrate the children.

The Commissioner charged the students to continue to promote the good image of the state as they pursue their academic career.
