2021 Annual Engineering Week: Akure NSE Hosts Members to Dinner/Awards Nite

The Akure Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has held a dinner and awards nite for members as part of the activities marking the 2021 Annual Engineering Week in Akure, Ondo State capital.

A week long programme began with health walk, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of branch executives, lecture, Jumat Service and Sunday Thanksgiving.

Speaking at the dinner, the Branch Chairman, Engr Ezekiel Oloruntola said the award and dinner nite was organised to appreciate members who have contributed immensely to the development of NSE in Akure.

The Chairman appeals to members to up their political engagement at the National level of the Society, saying they should not allow its leadership representation to go into extinction. ” I am pleading with our young and energetic members to participate actively at both the local and national politics of NSE”.

On his part, the Chairman of the occasion, Engr David Folorunsho Omoya, a former chairman of the branch commended Engr Ezekiel led executives for his outstanding engagement since he assumed office as the branch chairman of the society.

Engr Omoya enjoined engineers in the state to always maintain integrity and diligence in their work, work hard and prove their worth wherever they may find themselves.

He implored contractors in the state to support the ongoing building project at the branch secretariat at part of their social responsibility to NSE in the state.

To add more value to the dinner, the State Director of Vehicle Inspection Officer, Engr Alaba Adeleye delivered a lecture titled Traffic Rules, Implementation, Violation and its Consequences.

The guest speaker condemed the manner motorists and road users are violating rules and regulations guiding driving, saying most of the accident on the roads are cause by negligence and carefree attitude while driving.

Engr Adeleye advice drivers not to obtain driver’s license by proxy saying doing so will amount to holding fake driving paper not know to the law of the state.

He further highlighted the do and don’t while driving, adding that violators of the traffic rules will definitely be fined or is at risk of going to jail.

The second speaker speaks on Cyber Security, noting that people should be very careful with the manner they give out personal data to stranger.

Meanwhile, the branch chairman administered oath of office to the newly elected executives who have one year mandate to serve NSE.

The branch executives are Engr Adeyeye Oluwaseun (Vice Chairman), Engr Adeyonu Adeyemi (General Secretary), Engr Seun Borokini (Treasurer), Engr Owolabi Oluwatomisin (Publicity Secretary), Engr Bamikole Komolafe (Ass Gen Secretary), Engr Stephen Bolawole (Ex Officio II), Engr Folasade Eniafe (Financial Secretary), Engr Tanimola Babatunde (Technical Secretary) and Engr Fadare Olugbenga (Ass Technical Secretary).

In recognition of their contributions to the day to day running of the society, the branch presented gifts to the four administrative staff ranging from the Administrative officer, driver, serving Corp’s member and the Office Assistant.

Awards were also presented to outstanding members whose contributions is immeasurable in the last one year. The two categories awards were Branch Service and Branch Merit Awards.

In attendance were past branch chairmen, elders, stakeholders and members were all treated to a sumptuous dinner.
