RE: ALADE/ATOSIN PDP DISOWNED REP AKINGBASO: SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

My attention has been drawn to a purported release by two individuals from the aforementioned ward in Idanre Local Government, which incidentally is the ward of Hon. Festus O. Akingbaso, MHR. The release attempts to portray his defection as trivial and unpopular, with an ulterior motive for reelection.

The facts are clear: the PDP’s national leadership has struggled to manage the party for cohesion, which is essential for winning subsequent elections. Notably, the party’s presidential candidate, H.E. Atiku Abubakar, is reportedly exploring alternative party options, while his running mate has already defected. Furthermore, ongoing litigations pose a threat to the party’s administration and potentially its ability to present candidates in future elections.

As someone with access to pertinent information about the party, Hon. Akingbaso’s decision was made after thorough consultation and consideration. It’s essential to note that his relationship with the party at the state, local, and ward levels remains intact, with party members viewed as family. However, certain decisions had to be made.

While the defection may not sit well with some individuals, it was borne out of careful deliberation and strategic thinking, particularly given the challenges faced by minority members in the National Assembly.

It’s worth noting that only the publicity secretary is constitutionally empowered to make official releases on behalf of the PDP.

Rest assured, Hon. Akingbaso will continue to dutifully pursue his primary functions as a representative, driving impactful development.

Thank you.
