The Convener of the Yeswefit Revolutionary Movement Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese has described the gale of defections from the opposition Parties to the ruling All Progressive Congress as quest for power ahead of the 2027 election and not in the interest of Nigerians.
Speaking on the Good Morning Show of the Channels TV on Wednesday on a topic ” 2027 Election: Justice, Corruption & Democratic Future, the Former Presidential Aspirant said the defections are for power pursuit, crave to retain office and garner more votes.
He noted that, at the presidential level, the more states under the care of the ruling party will make it easier for the party to win re-election at the 2027 poll.
According to him, ” I am not excited about people moving from the PDP to APC, I am not disenchanted either that we have one party state. What I am concern about is governance beyond party politicking”.
He added that, what is important to him is governance, true leadership, accountability, transparency saying the current crop of politicians are more interested in getting to office, retain power and re-circulate themselves in office.
The Yeswefit Convener further queried the difference between People’s Democratic Party and All Progressive Congress in terms of ideology saying both parties are like siemese twins that share the same ideology with no difference.
He frowned at the way elected Nigeria politicians have relegated governance to the background, prioritizing politics at the detriment of masses that voted them to power.
“When a particular political party is voted for and form government, what we should witness ordinarily is governance and politics should be secondary but reverse is the case as our politicians relegate governance to the background and play politics for the entire terms”.
He noted that, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State is performing not because he’s a member of the Labour Party but has an agenda of leadership and know what he wants to do as governor.
Ikubese said for as long as wrong people are in government, it will be very difficult to get Nigeria out of the wood.
” We are putting wrong people in government and we are expecting positive results. With these set of people in government who care less about the interest of the masses but primarily in government to enrich themselves, children, children unborn at the detriment of the people that voted them in power”.
He called on the National Assembly to give Nigerians a system that work by amending the constitution to make political office unattractive, single term of six years non- renewable, Special Anti-Corruption Court for trial of Corruption related cases, publishing of Income and Expediture of governance among others.
” While vying for the president of this country, my manifesto is well detailed on how to fix Nigeria. Inside the manifesto, I proposed unattractive salaries for elected politicians, single term of six years, affordable parties Nomination Forms, Anti-Corruption Court, publishing of income and expenditure of governance among others”.
Ikubese said in the fight against corruption, the proposed Anti-Corruption Court should determine cases within six months, life imprisonment for culpable without an option of fine, removal of immunity from political office holders on cases of corruption.
He stressed the need for moderation in the sale of Nomination Forms by political parties saying any politician that has invested huge amount in politics would definitely recoup his money and make additional profit.
Ikubese called for a new amended constitution that will cater for all the points highlighted in his manifesto, believing that once salary is no more attractive, serious minded individual will take over governance of the states and country.
