Sckye Hospitals CMD, Dr Thomas Wilson-Ikubese Sworn-In As Justice of Peace, Says Appointment Is A Call To More Service

Dr Thomas Wilson-Ikubese, the Chief Medical Director of the Sckye Hospitals Limited, Akure has been officially inaugurated as a Justice of the Peace (JP) in Ondo State.
The Humanitarian Medical Doctor was among the 130 distinguished Nigerians sworn in during the state’s formal inauguration ceremony held on Friday, 28th November, 2025 at the The DOME.
In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the occasion as a turning point in reinforcing justice at the grassroots, in consonant with the ‘Order, Security and the Rule of Law’, which is the first component of the OUR EASE agenda of his administration.
Towards the improving on the security architecture of the State, the governor disclosed that he had just given the approval for the recruitment and training of 500 new officers for the Amotekun Corps.
Governor Aiyedatiwa therefore urged the new JPs to play their part in enhancing local security, peace and justice in their respective communities.
He reminded the new JP appointees that their office is a “sacred responsibility,” requiring integrity, wisdom, decorum and fairness.
Speaking with the PATH, Dr Ikubese expressed deep appreciation to the governor and Commissioner of Justice, Dr Kayode Ajulo SAN for counting him worthy for the Prestigious honour as Justice of the Peace in Ondo State, saying the appointment is a call to more service.
He further said that, he sees the appointment as a seamless continuation of his long-standing service to humanity, preaches of unity and united nation without attaching more string to state of origin but one Nigeria.
His words: ” I am highly honored and humbled to be considered for this great honor from the government of Ondo State. A call to serve as a Justice of the Peace, is another avenue to preach peace among different ethnic groups residing in Ondo State because with peace and love, we can build a better nation”.
Dr Ikubese emphasised that peace must become a collective responsibility embraced by families, communities, institutions and nations.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General of the State, Dr Ajulo, traced the JP institution to its 14th‑century English origins and its adoption during Nigeria’s colonial era.
He noted that Ondo last appointed JPs in 2008 and described the office as a crucial link between government and communities.
Ajulo outlined the statutory powers under Section 12 of the Magistrates’ Court Law, enabling JPs to preserve peace, quell disturbances and seek assistance when necessary.
He emphasised that appointees were selected based on merit, moral standing, integrity, humility and commitment to peaceful conduct.
The event also witnessed the inauguration of traditional rulers, religious leaders, security heads, diplomats and notable professionals who were appointed as Justices of the Peace.
